Architect: Comito Associates PC

Contractor: Century 21 Construction

The goal of this project was to modernize the existing court complex while increasing security arrangements and reconfiguring access for employees and visitors. The concept also made it possible to create the vast open spaces that are needed in this type of facility.

The project included forty-two 24-inch-thick sandwich panels, with a lightly sandblasted architectural finish. Some of the precast components were 30 feet in length and weighed about 40,000 pounds each, requiring the use of a complex system to abut the framing armatures. All the components and their systems were designed with the Tekla Structures specialized tool.

During installation, a temporary steel structure was erected and subsequently dismantled after the concrete units were installed, necessitating an elaborate construction sequence.
