The High Line was originally an abandoned railroad that threaded through Manhattan on elevated tracks. The plan was to rehabilitate the line into a trail for pedestrians and cyclists, well removed from motor vehicle traffic and interspersed with green spaces. For many, the project was one of the best developments in the history of New York.
Precast concrete is featured in the walkways, seating elements and other street furniture, returning concrete to its most organic and natural forms.
